London – September 30, 2002 – Google Inc., developer of the award-winning Google search engine, today announced the availability of AdWords, a self-service online advertising programme with cost-per-click (CPC) pricing. AdWords text-based sponsored links appear to the right of Google’s web-wide search results and are closely targeted by keyword to the information Google users are searching for.

The AdWords programme enables UK advertisers to market products and services through Google, the No. 4 web property in the UK, and Google’s growing global network of syndication partners. AdWords advertisers can now reach Google’s 7.7 million UK users and nearly 60 million users worldwide (source: Nielsen/NetRatings August 2002).

“The AdWords programme is based on the same high quality and relevance standards that Google users experience from our objective web search results,” said Omid Kordestani, Google’s senior vice president of Global Sales and Business Development. “AdWords provides substantial value to our thousands of UK advertisers and delivers helpful information to our users.”

Benefits of AdWords include:

Google’s advertising programmes are built on four years of experience running the world’s largest search engine. Google offers advertisers and partners a full range of editorial and client services designed to ensure the relevancy of ads and assist with campaign management. Additionally, Google’s tens of thousands of worldwide advertisers generate significant advertising revenues through Google’s growing network of syndication partners, including America Online, Ask Jeeves, and InfoSpace.
